15mm Empire: We have an ogre - and we will use him!

I always thought I suck at sculpting... Maybe I have improved my skills or it's again 15mm scale that is way more forgiving mistakes. I desperately wanted an ogre for my Empire warband. After some research it became clear that there is none on the market and a conversion would be necessary. I realized that I picked up six of the excellent ogre miniatures from Alternative Armies. I sacrificed a Demonworld chap for the feather and looked through my 28mm bitz finding an old shield fitting size-wise. The rest had to be done with green stuff. I am more than pleased with the final result and will certainly do another one in the near future. An ogre rarely comes alone and I have to other poses left to convert.

  1. Fantastic work on the conversion!

15mm scale is quite forgiving when sculpting as even if the sculpt is a bit rough around the edges, it almost always looks good when painted.

Love the Empire warband you've got too. I really need to paint up my Demonworld stuff.

  3. That's pretty impressive! I really like the conversion. The hat is my personal favourite, looking so small, I think it's the icing on the cake, the piece that gives the mini its own charm. Seriously, it's all a great work :)

    1. I had a feeling that if you put an ogre in fancy clothes, he MUST be looking ridiculous. That's also why I decided against changing the lower part. It's a wild uncivilized ogre with a colourful vest and a tiny hat. ;)

  4. Very impressive, that's one great conversion. I especially like the weapon, that took a big of imagination and looks totally ace.
Sculpting on 15mm is really not that hard and like Andy Chambers once said in an old White Dwarf: "Paint covers a lot of flaws". (Or at least something in that sense 😁).
