Gruntz 15mm batrep

So we had our first game of Gruntz 15mm with my Weird War II armies. Stats for the units were easily made and the fun could begin. We had two mission objects to seize and played the random activation variant with a deck of poker cards. Also, we substituted the 2D6 with D12 which turned out fine. Another house rule was that the weapons' range on the unit cards was indicating the distance of optimal effect granting a +1 to hit modifier, while doubling the value meant +0 and triple range was a long distance shot at -1 to hit. These rather radical changes to the original rules played well and we didn't have the feeling that shooting was too deadly. After 4 turns our playing time ran out and we called it a draw since both sides held one of the objectives. Victory points for killing the german commander were canceled out by having more german units on the Americans' table half. I found it fiddly to determine the necessary to hit number for each different unit, besides from that Gruntz delivered lots of fun for us. We will definetly play that ruleset again.

Weird War II armies

Some more impressions from my Weird War II armies. I just need to paint up some more infantry and one or two vehicles and I will be able to play battles much bigger than I did in my 40K days. I mixed in another 28mm miniature from Copplestone Castings that makes a great srompy robot. Group shots will follow!

NSL Jaeger Light Infantry

NSL Jaegers form Ground Zero Games with a Grey Adder APC from the Ion Age. I plan to build at least two Hard Sci Fi forces for Fireteam Andromeda and Gruntz. The first ten Jaegers are done and I'm confident to finish another squad soon.

Transports for the Germans

I managed to paint up my two SdKfz 251 conversions that are based on the Plastic Soldier Company kits. I added a new gun from Brigade Models and closed the vehicle tops to make them look more Sci-fi. The Grenadiers are from Battlefront.

Copplestone Powerarmor make great Weird War II Mechas

One of the main advantages of 15mm is the ability to mix stuff as you see fit. I searched through my 28mm lead pile and came up with these Power Armor guys from Copplestone Castings. Being bulky and crude they match Weird War II quite well, I think.
I'm going to use them with Gruntz and Fireteam Andromeda, so giving them proper stats won't be a problem.

Why? Why didn't I do this years ago?

I'm into tabletop gaming and miniature painting since 1998. Starting with Battletech and Space Crusade even earlier, I threw myself into the hobby starting a Chaos Army for Warhammer 40k. Necromunda, Blood Bowl and Epic Armageddon follwed and after that I discovered many more systems doing the bigs mistake again and again. I started plenty of projects in 28mm and even after painting hundreds of miniatures I never really finished them.
All this has changed.
Armies for Weird War II - done.
Insurgents for near future skirmishes - done.
Daemons for Doom-like dungeon crawls - done.
Welcome to the beautiful realm of 15mm wargaming. After working three months in this scale I painted over 150 miniatures and loads of tanks, APCs, robots, walkers, monsters and terrain. If I go on like this, I will be able to play any kind of setting and game size by the end of the year. The problems of space and time are solved, I will continue my hobby as desired and even real life issues won't hinder me. Thank you 15mm, you are too kind to me.

This blog will show my progress in this particular scale only. I changed to Blogger because it offers more options of communication and interaction. If you are interested in my other projects, follow this link to my old Tumblr blog.
